🔧 Seasonal Maintenance Alert: Keep Your Industrial Doors Safe, Legal & Operational This Summer

As the summer season sets in, it's not just the weather that heats up — it's also the perfect time to think about the health of your industrial doors. At Somerset Industrial Doors, we know that regular maintenance is key to keeping your doors operating smoothly, ensuring workplace safety, and staying compliant with the law.

Why Maintenance Matters More Than Ever

The warmer months often bring increased activity in warehouses, logistics centres, and factories. Whether you're moving stock, receiving deliveries, or improving ventilation, your industrial doors are working harder than ever.

Without regular maintenance, even high-quality industrial doors can become a hazard. Faulty doors can cause injury, damage goods, slow down operations, and result in costly emergency repairs — all of which are avoidable with planned servicing.

What the Law Says

It’s not just best practice — it’s a legal requirement.

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, employers are responsible for ensuring that powered doors and gates are “subject to a suitable system of maintenance” and kept in good working order.

Additionally, Regulation 5 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) states:

“Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”

Industrial doors, especially powered roller shutters, sectional overhead doors, and fire doors, fall under this regulation.

Failing to meet these obligations can not only invalidate insurance policies but also lead to prosecution if an accident occurs.

What We Recommend

At Somerset Industrial Doors, we advise all our clients to:

✅ Schedule maintenance at least twice a year (or more frequently for high-usage doors)
✅ Keep records of all inspections and servicing
✅ Act promptly on any issues or faults
✅ Ensure all safety devices, such as sensors and brakes, are tested regularly

Our certified engineers carry out thorough safety checks, performance testing, and preventative servicing to help you stay compliant and secure peace of mind.
